SHOOTOUT IN THE BAYOU

Outline headed for the big easy for a shootout between the Outline Butterfly and the L- Acoustics VDOSC.

Kingston Audio of New Orleans held the shoot out to hear the Outline Butterfly Line array in action.

Using the lift gate of a two 24’ box truck, we put 4 of the VDOSC = 952 pounds on the back of the each truck with 3 L-Acoustics SB218 subs on the ground next to each truck.

For the Outline Butterfly, we used 6 CDH 483 hi packs = 462 pounds on a genie lift and 3 Subtech 218s on the ground per side.

The initial observation: it took a  five-man crew to set up the VDOSC and only a two-man crew to set up the Outline Butterfly. In addition, there was a huge difference in the weight and size of the amp racks needed to power the two different arrays. Outline uses true DIGAM amplifiers which are 1 Rack U and weigh an astonishing 22 pounds each while putting out 3200 watts at 2 Ohms.

In cranking up the VDOSC, it was the great sound that has made VDOSC a staple in the concert industry. Then the Outline Butterfly came on line and everyone was very surprised at the SPL level coming out of the Outline Butterfly. The Outline Butterfly was going toe to toe with the VDOSC. The Outline Subtech 218 subs were very tight and clean. It was a very windy day, so it was a good time to see how they faired in the high winds and again, the Butterfly surpassed all expectations.  The further back we were from the array, the more it became apparent how well the high frequencies of the Butterfly Line array held together and that the highs were less affected by the wind than the VDOSC . Everyone was very impressed with the Outline Butterfly and the Subtech 218.

Then we lined up the stage monitors H.A.R.D. 212, 115, 45 and the DVS series DVS 10,12,15 and the Micra II SP. Everyone heard the same quality in the rest of the Outline product line as they found in the Butterfly line array.

Everyone was BLOWN AWAY! As one person said,  “With the great sound at 77lb a box it’s a smart business decision… It’s a very versatile box (Butterfly). I could use it in a corporate event, then take it out to do a major event all with the same box. Also,  the fact that we can use half the labor for  setup and tear down,  the array is ultra- cost-effective.

As a result of its overwhelming success, the Outline Butterfly will be feautured in the Blues Tent at the Jazz Fest in April and May .
